Regrout + deep clean
Stained grout removed, tiles deep-cleaned, fresh uniform grout laid.
Waterproofing is the layer you never see. Behind the tiles sits a membrane that is supposed to contain every drop of water the shower produces. The tiles, grout and silicone are the wearing surface that protects it; when they fail, the membrane takes the load, and eventually water finds the framing, the floor or the ceiling below.
We repair the parts of the waterproofing system that can be reached without demolition: the movement joints, the tile-to-base and hob junctions, the tap and outlet penetrations, and the surface that sheds water into the waste. Where the membrane itself has genuinely failed, we say so plainly rather than selling a repair that will not hold.
Common causes
- Membrane not turned up the wall or over the hob high enough when the bathroom was built
- Penetrations around taps, rails and outlets sealed poorly or not at all
- Grout and silicone left to fail, exposing the membrane to constant water
- Structural or slab movement tearing a rigid membrane
- A shower base or hob that has dropped away from the wall junction
- Older bathrooms built before current waterproofing standards applied
When you need this repair
- Ceiling stains or bubbling paint in the room below the bathroom
- Damp carpet, swollen skirting or lifting floor on the other side of the shower wall
- Efflorescence — white powdery salts — appearing on tiles or grout
- A musty smell in the bathroom that cleaning never clears
- Grout and silicone have already been redone but the damp continues

Frequently asked
Can shower waterproofing be repaired without removing tiles?
Sometimes. Joints, penetrations, hob and base junctions and the surface layer can all be repaired in place. If the membrane behind the tiles has failed across the shower, tiles have to come up — and we will tell you that instead of quoting a repair that cannot work.
How do I know if it is the waterproofing or just the grout?
Grout failure usually shows as visible cracking with damp confined to the shower. Waterproofing failure shows up away from the shower — a ceiling stain below, damp skirting in the next room, or salts pushing through the tiles.
Do you provide a waterproofing certificate?
Certification applies to new waterproofing installations by a licensed waterproofer, not to a repair of an existing shower. If your situation needs certification we will tell you up front.
Is a leaking shower urgent?
Yes. Water reaching framing, flooring or plasterboard causes damage that grows every week. A repair booked early is almost always the cheapest outcome.
