There's a natural progression from grout patch-repair to full regrout. Here are the five signs the shower has crossed the line.
1. Multiple failed sections. If more than a quarter of the visible grout is cracked, missing or discoloured, patching becomes a stopgap. Full regrout gives a better result at similar cost.
2. Previous patch repairs are failing again. A grout system that's failing after one round of patching is signalling that it's near end-of-life.
3. Grout is powdery when scratched. Powdery grout has lost its structural integrity throughout, not just in the visibly failed spots.
4. Colour is inconsistent across the shower. Even if joints are technically intact, mismatched colour reads as tired. Full regrout gives one uniform system.
5. You're planning to sell or lease. First impressions matter and a clean, uniform grout system reads as 'well-maintained'.
